Sit Properly Please
Sit Properly Please is the compilation of year-long Senior Integrated Project. The core motivation of Sit Properly Please is to provoke its audience to reflect why we sit the way we do? The interactive installation using discursive design philosophy addresses the question: what does it mean in mainstream American society to sit properly? This question is viewed through the context in which sitting properly is often expected: the dinner table. Sitting and eating are universal experiences and can be used as a means of introducing a conversation about different cultural practices. The intended outcome of this interaction is to reveal that the traditional erect seating posture with feet placed on the ground is a component of western cultures unnecessary formality to sitting and eating. This awareness will contribute to the audience’s understanding of how culture and designed objects impact the simplest of actions.
